Cycle-Flex Standard Fittings Description and Selection
CMA standard fittings are listed starting with the least expensive to the most costly mechanical cables. The cost factor includes the cost of the fitting and the direct labor required for its assembly. Lanyard cables and restraint cables are just some of the many uses these products can be utilized as.
Cost Factor Rating
|Assembly Method||Minimum Holding
% of Cable Min. Break Strength On Bare Cable
|10 Series Eye/
|Swaged Oval||80% /
50% over jacket for Cycle-Flex
|Easy assembly with pin, rivet or screw, allows cable assembly to rotate.||Tension assemblies, lanyards, drive cables, cable controls.|
Plug / 65 Series
|Swaged Hex / Staked||80% / 50%||Easy assembly in slot, fork or pocket. Good bearing surface.
Can be applied in middle of cable to index or clamp. Ball and permits cable alignment.
|Tension assemblies, drive cables, cable controls.|
|17 Series Eye,
47 Series Ball,
67 Series Plug
|Die cast to shape||80%||Permits unique shapes for unusual mounting. Lightweight. Cable must be “bird caged” for maximum holding strength.||Cable controls, drive cables, tension assemblies.|
|40 Series Ball
|50%||Good for confined mounting. Fits in pockets easily.
Allows cable alignment/rotation.
|Drive cables, tension assemblies, cable controls.|
|80%||Allows adjustment & pre-load during assembly. Cable used with turnbuckle for continuous loop assembly||Drive cables, continuous loop, cable controls, release assemblies.|
|100%||Can fit in pockets or slot/forks. Can be applied anywhere on cable, High reliability.||Drive cables, tension assemblies.|
|70 Series Ball & Shank
|Hydro-Formed||100%||Permits cable rotation – protects cable when used with mating metal parts.||Clevis assemblies, rotating parts.|
|50 Series Loop & Loop with Thimble
|Swaged Round or Hex||80%||Allows special size loops to suit application. Can rotate around mating part. Can be applied over jacket in some cases. Used with thimbles for greater strength & wear resistance.||Lanyards, restraints, slings.|
|81 Series Turnbuckles Machined
|50%||Used with a ball fitting. Permits adjustment of length & preloading. Mating part must be threaded.||Drive cables, tension & support assembly, continuous loops.|
|*NOTE: Most standard fittings are designed to hold the minimum breaking strength of a particular mechanical cable diameter. The holding strength of any fitting applied to bare cable should never be specified at its maximum capacity. The specification should be based on the working load, the appropriate safety factor for the application, and in general, should never exceed the minimum holding strength capability indicated on this chart.|
