A major U.S. manufacturer of motorcycles sought our expertise and high-tech facility for developing a custom clutch cable solution. They were in the final stages of redesigning a new clutch system and required a quick turnaround on a pull-pull cable.
As the top-rated motorcycle manufacturer neared their newest product launch, they discovered that the redesigned clutch system was unintentionally creating higher shifting effort for the rider. Project engineers sought multiple methods to reduce the loads and move the product through final approvals.
The motorcycle design team opted to reroute the clutch cable, which would help to minimize cable drag. The proposed changes, however, meant the manufacturer needed a new cable and product testing right away. CMA was their ultimate source for creating a prototype to custom fit the special assembly requirements and conduct product testing to ensure the cable met the customer’s needs.
Since CMA had not provided the original cable, we had to ensure a thorough understanding of the motorcycle manufacturer’s cable needs. Our engineering and design team quickly gained insight into the clutch design, which included several components unique to the manufacturer.
CMA utilized a combination of our vast supply base and internal fabrication capabilities to build a custom cable suited to the customer’s exact specifications. The in-house design and cable assembly required unique tooling, which CMA completed with our world-class facilities and equipment. In one week, we built and tested a high-quality cable assembly which satisfied the customer’s request and kept their product launch on schedule.
